ANNUAL GOVERNANCE STATEMENT OF THE GOVERNING BODY OF
TRINITY ST. MARY’S CHURCH OF ENGLAND PRIMARY SCHOOL – 2024/2025
In accordance with Government requirements for all governing bodies, the 3 core strategic functions are:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
- Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
The governing body at Trinity St. Mary’s are very proud of the commitment that all staff give to our pupils, this enables them to thrive and each reach their individual potential. We intend for their time at primary school to be a happy, fulfilled experience, during which, they are educated in a caring, Christian environment.
REVIEW OF 2024/2025
GOVERNING BODY MEMBERSHIP
Parent Governor, Kerry Cooke resigned, we were grateful for her contributions and participation in the governance of our school. We have been fortunate to welcome Mrs Ann Quare as our Local Authority representative, Mrs Leann Tindall as a Parent Governor and Reverend Jacqui King as an Ex-officio Governor. Parent Governor vacancies will be advertised when available.
During the past year the governing body has dissolved dedicated committees and worked jointly on all areas of school life, this has ensured that all members have been able to participate in discussions, rather than relying on the future circulation of committee minutes. Lead governors for financial, curricular and admissions matters have been maintained. Governors have found this to be a beneficial way of working. All necessary governor training has been undertaken. An admissions meeting was not required this year.
Governors discussed the necessary differentiation between year groups in mixed year classes, an overview of staffing was maintained and termly subject overview meetings were held with teachers. Governors accompanied many memorable school trips and have been fortunate to attend celebration events along with pupils and their families.
Parental concerns and complaints were addressed, and related meetings were held.
Financial matters are always a particular focus, within tight constraints, a balanced budget was set.
Updates to ICT and required fire safety works were overseen.
Across the year, the results reviewed included; Year 6 SATS, optional Year 2 SATS, phonics screening, multiplication tests and Early Years assessments.
Preparation was made for the expected SIAMS, church school, inspection, which ensured the J1 outcome. This simple judgement is not to be understated; it indicates that Trinity St. Mary’s stands at the highest level of church school. Grateful thanks are due to our SIAMS governors, the Headteacher and RE lead - Mrs Allan, for their diligent work over many years, resulting in this outcome. A new Health and Safety governor has been identified, matters within the school and grounds have been overseen, as well as the building project regarding fire safety works, which included the new doors in the reception area.
Governors look forward to 2025-26 school year and the adventures it will bring.
